Cedar Point trip planning. help?

me and a friend are planning on going to cedar point for spring break and we will be coming from the west coast of NYS. we plan on saving about $300 a piece ($600 all together) to cut expenses between gas, food, a hotel, and the theme park tickets. we dont need a double bed room for the hotel and we want to stay as cheap as possible. we will be staying in Ohio for about 4 days and will be leaving out of NY on Sunday morning and arriving during the day. We mostly likely are not gonna spend every day at the theme park. We might want to hit up a beach of another attraction close by. Is there any cheap hotel rooms that anyone knows about that are decent and close to the park? Is there any attractions you might recommend (no historical stuff, mostly fun things to do) and also how much about do you think this will cost? any pointers or tips will be greatly appreciated. :)
