Punta Cana, Dominican activities?

I am going to Punta Cana in March. I was wanting to do several activities such as swimming with dolphins and adventurous activities. I know that the resort itself sells packages once your there, but would it be cheaper or better to book them before you go? is online cheaper ? thanks
